The cause of an early morning fire in Michigan City still have officials questioning how it started.

Police were called out to Community Christian Church on the 7000 west block of 450 north when a report came in that there was a large grass fire.

When police arrived they observed a 1 acre wooded lot by the church in flames and immediately went to a nearby residence to warn the home's owners of the blaze.

According to the police report, the home's owner met police outside and informed them that he had been the one to call the fire in but he was unsure how it started and did not notice any suspicious activity that morning as he was leaving for work.

The Coolspring Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene to extinguish the blaze and luckily no structures were damaged.
