Wild Turkeys Comeback

It's too late to put a wild turkey on the dinner table...
But....you can do it for Christmas if you wish.
Wild turkeys have made a nice comeback in recent years due to
the birds being stocked.
There is a short hunting season in October.
People can hunt wild turkeys again in December.
Gene Davis is a conservation officer with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources...
He says wild turkeys were hunted heavily.....and their numbers were practically
zero in this area for several decades...
Davis says wild turkeys started getting stocked about a decade ago and
they are not as big as the store bought kind...but they do
get over 20 pounds and can fly a distance of to up to 100 yards.
