Money has been given to help investigate alcohol related fatal crashes
in La Porte County.
The sheriff's office has a fatal alcohol crash team and it was put into
full use less than six months ago...
Officers are like specialists and get called upon whenever an accident
involving death or serious injury occurs and alcohol or drugs is suspected
as a factor.
La Porte County Police Chief of Detectives John Boyd says the monies are from
the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute...
Before the team existed....Boyd says the officer working the shift
would usually be assigned crash investigations.
He says the team produce benefits like more accuracy and efficiency.
