Police say a man injured when he ran into a van on his motorcycle in the northeast

part of La Porte County was intoxicated.

Saturday just before 5 p.m....officers were called to U-S 20 and Emery Rd.

in the Hudson Lake area.

Police say the investigation shows 51 year old James Ashcraft from New Carlisle

was on a  Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Suddenly...he turned into the side of an oncoming van in the middle of

the intersection.

Police say a helicopter was called to fly Ashcraft to a South Bend hospital due

to the serious nature of his injuries.

However..when the helicopter arrived...the flight crew told police they would

not transport Ashcraft because he was being too combative.

So...he was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Police say Ashcraft had a blood alcohol level nearly four times the legal

limit.

Police reports indicate he was released from the hospital the next day.

A warrant is being sought to charge him with drunk driving.

Police say the charge would be a felony due to a prior OWI conviction from

2009.

The driver of the van....27 year old William Kyle and two children in his

vehicle were not injured.
