In Starke County...a deer hunter was hurt badly in a fall from a tree stand.

Officials say the mishap occurred Sunday afternoon near Grovertown.

Emergency responders received a call that a man had fallen from a tree stand

in a heavily wooded area and was unable to move.

Officials say 25 year old Silas Wait of Govertown was climbing into his tree stand

when the support chain slipped.

The tree stand platform gave way causing him to fall over 20 feet to the ground.

Wait was air-lifted to a South Bend hospital for injuries to his head, neck, and chest.

Officials say he is expected to recover.

Conservation officers remind deer hunters using tree stands to always wear a

full body safety harness and to check their stand for any wear or loose straps

during the hunting season.
