Charges have been filed in connection with a fatal motor vehicle crash

outside La Porte.

29 year old Thomas Drnek is charged with operating while intoxicated

causing death.

If convicted....he could face an up to 20 year sentence.

Police say Drnek was behind the wheel of a car that crashed into a grove of

trees along U-S 35 near Schultz Road early Thursday.

Authorities say it appears speed was another factor in the crash judging

by the amount of damage.

Killed was a passenger....26 year old Jacob Anderson.

Police have not released the driver's blood alcohol level but Anderson

had a blood alcohol level two and a half times the legal limit.

People who know Anderson says he was out with his children trick or treating

just hours prior to the crash.

Drnek survived and was still at I-U Health La Porte Hospital.

Once he is released....authorities say he will be taken to the county jail and book to await

the outcome of the case.
