Locally....soybean farmers are surprised at this year's

yields.

The drought this summer had farmers very concerned

but during this fall's ongoing harvest.....soybean yields

are higher than expected.

Gene Matzat is an educator with the Purdue Extension office

in La Porte.

He says rains late in the summer helped thirsty soybeans rebound....

Matzat says in places where the soil is kindy of sandy....soybeans

yields and quality are not as good.

Matzat says the soybean harvest locally is about 75 percent completed.
