A special prosecutor will try the case against a LaPorte County official charged

with a crime.

At the courthouse in Michigan City yesterday....Judge Michael Bergerson granted

the request from the defense.

LaPorte County Councilman John Sullivan is charged with residential entry...a level 6

felony.

He allegedly went inside the home of a woman in Wanatah without her permission.

The defense said local prosecutors should not be involved because of

Sullivan being in a position of authority over the office.

LaPorte County Prosecutor John Espar did not challenge the request.

He did provide the court with a list of prosecutors from outside the county that

could be considered to take over the case.
