The recent Great Lakes Grand Prix in Michigan City has

set a record for attendance and money brought into the

local economy.

Just released figures show more than 190 thousand people attended

the race and all of the related events over a three day period a month ago.

Over 12 million dollars was also pumped into the local economy.

Figures show about 75 percent of the money was spent by people from

out of town.

The economic impact exceeded last year's record by about 20 percent.

Attendance was also more than 20-percent higher than the previous record

also set last year.

The study also finds 40 percent of the people came for the first time.

The powerboat racing along Michigan City's shoreline just completed its tenth year.
