A LaPorte County sheriff's deputy is being recognized statewide for

saving a life last year.

Austin Wells will be honored tonight by the Indiana Sheriff's Association

in French Lick.

In November....deputy Austin Wells stopped a vehicle for speeding and found

the driver to be choking.

He successfully applied the Heimlich Maneuver.

Sheriff John Boyd says not all lifesavers get recognized at the state level....

The 65 year old woman was choking on a honey mustard nut.

Wells has been a police officer for about a year.
