LaPorte County sheriff John Boyd is cutting tall grass today with a couple of his

Jail inmates.

He's running a weed whacker at Heckman Cemetery in the Heston area.

He and his jail supervisor along with two members of the jail inmate work crew

are there.

Boyd says the grass there is like knee high.....

So....they're working to make the cemetery much more presentable.....

Boyd says he gets out and works with the inmates from time to time.

With jeans and a t-shirt on....he says it's good for the offenders to see that he...too...

Puts his pants on one leg at a time.....

Boyd says offenders in the work program do not have a history of violence.

He says there are about 20 offenders total in the work crew.....

Some of the crew members recently helped with cleaning up Patton Cemetery and

getting the community garden in LaPorte prepared for the season.
