In the race for LaPorte County Prosecutor.....John Lake gained the democratic nomination.

Lake from Michigan City defeated incumbent John Espar also of Michigan City by just 81 votes.

Lake...a former deputy prosecutor here for over 20-years.....jumped out to an early

200 vote lead.

He and his supporters at the Carpenter's Union Hall in LaPorte seemed to be on pins

and needles as his lead began dwinding.

But...the place erupted in applause when votes from all 92 precincts in the county

were counted and Lake came out on top.

During the campaign.....Lake was very critical of how the prosecutor's office was run.

He said more than deputy prosecutors had resigned over the past three and a half years.

Lake also said a lot of criminal cases were not being filed......leaving legitimate victims

without justice.

Lake said it was nothing personal against Espar.....but he had brought out what he felt

were the major issues....

In the other major local races......all of the democrats ran unopposed and advance

to the November general election.
