A Michigan City man has admitted shooting at co-worker at Burger King in a rampage where one of the rounds struck a Walgreens across the street.

Deiondrai Thompkins could face a maximum 28-years if the court accepts his plea of guilty to level 3 felony aggravated battery and two level 5 felony counts of criminal recklessness.

The next hearing in the case before LaPorte Superior Court 1 Judge Michael Bergerson is scheduled April 5.

According to court documents, the 20-year old Thompkins and 17-year old male victim worked together at Burger King on Franklin St. just north of U.S 20 in Michigan City.

The boy was shot in the foot on May 10 and released from the hospital several hours later, police said.

According to court documents, the boy was in the parking lot after just finishing his shift when approached by Thompkins, who was supposed to work the next shift but didn't have his uniform on.

During a heated verbal confrontation, police said Thompkins began shooting.

The victim was running away when struck in the foot and kept running as bullets continued being fired, police said.

According to court documents, a Burger King drive-thru worker dropped to the floor when a bullet hit the wall close to him.

Another round hit a door at the main entranceway to the restaurant, which had customers inside, police said.

A bullet was also removed from a wall at a still open Walgreens several hundred feet to the west, police said.

The victim told investigators he was accused of stealing from Thompkins, who confronted him inside the Burger King just 90 minutes before his shift was over, court records disclosed.

According to police, the victim said Thompkins formed the shape of a gun with his fingers before leaving.

Under the plea, a level 1 felony attempted murder charge will be dropped and sentencing argued.
