Well over half of the tools inside the garage of a Michigan City car dealership were stolen and driven off the property in one of the vehicles on the lot.

Ralph Fine, general manager at Bosak Honda, estimated the total loss at close to $100,000 or more.

Police said the burglary was still under investigation.

''It's the first time in the 22-years I've been at this location that anything like this has ever happened,'' Fine said.

Fine said employees reporting for work Saturday morning discovered the overnight break-in.

Five tool boxes, including some worth about $10,000 apiece, were destroyed when forced open.

Fine said a variety of high dollar wrenches and hand-held scanning devices used to diagnose mechanical problems were placed on a battery cart and pushed to a 2017 Honda CRV.

The tools were loaded into the vehicle sticker priced at $27,000 and driven off the lot.

The garage would have been totally cleaned out but one tool box could not be opened.

Fine said the dealership was still able to meet the service needs of customers, though, with the tools left behind and extra tools several technicians brought from home.

Keys to eight vehicles were also taken, including the set for the vehicle used in the heist, he said.

Vehicles with missing keys were being reprogrammed Monday for different keys and locks.

''It's just some extra work we have to incur to make sure the vehicles are safe and won't be stolen,'' he said.
