The LaPorte County Solid Waste District will be moving its public compost pile.

It's on the grounds of the Westville Correctional Facility.

But....the prison has chosen not to renew its lease with the solid waste district.

So...the district will move the compost pile.....to Zigler Road...near the

fairgrounds.

Right now...that site is used for people to dispose of yard waste...but there are ongoing

problems with trash dumping.

Clay Turner....director of the solid waste district.....says having the compost pile

there could discourage illegal trash dumping...

The commissioners approved a five year lease for the district to use that

site for its compost pile...at no cost.
