A Michigan City man laying down when run over by an SUV was reported Thursday in stable condition.

The victim, Jeffrey Luegers, had a .415-percent blood alcohol level, police said.

The 56-year old man was recovering at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Michigan City Police said he had fractures to his ribs and shoulder.

Olivia Greene, 24, also of Michigan City just turned from Westwind Dr. into the parking lot of Southwind Apartments Wednesday night and swerved to miss a white bag, police said.

While swerving, police said her 2012 Jeep Patriot ran over the man lying down in a poorly lit section of the parking lot with dark clothing on.

Inside the bag were cans of alcoholic beverages, police said.

Luegers was partially underneath the SUV behind the front driver's side tire when Greene stopped and called 911.

She had no alcohol in her system and did not appear impaired by drugs.

Initially, Luegers was taken to Franciscan St. Anthony Health where a blood test conducted revealed a BAC over five-times the legal limit.

He was conscious and able to speak to the investigating officer at the hospital, police said.

According to police, Luegers lives at Pine Tree Court Apartments a few blocks west of where he was hit near U.S 421 on the city's south side.
