A major development could be on the way for the Michigan City area.

The LaPorte County Redevelopment Commission has given its blessing to

extending water and sewer to the site beside the old Waste Management Landfill.

It's on U.S 421 just south of Interstate 94.

There's discussion of a a truck stop....at least one hotel and a restaurant going in

there.

It's about a 30 million dollar project.

Doug Biege is the county attorney.

He says the first step has been taken to finance the water and sewer extension....

In addition.....there's also talk of putting a major recreation type facility

on the old waste management landfill close by.

Biege says the county council has to give its approval......for the water and

sewer extension to occur.

That could happen before the summer.
