The waste water treatment plant in LaPorte could be powered by the sun.

A solar energy field is part of the 10 million dollars in upgrades planned

for the sewer and water departments.

The solar power plant would go up near the existing treatment facility.

Waste Water Department superintendent Jerry Jackson says it costs about

18 thousand dollars a month to power the treatment plant now....

With solar energy...it's easy to see where a substantial savings would be

achieved....

The savings from all of the upgrades is expected to be enough to pay

for all of the improvements.

Jackson is hoping works begins in March on the solar energy facility.
