If someone dies from heroin...the seller will be treated almost like a murderer here in Indiana

Under a bill adopted yesterday.

The House of Representatives yesterday voted for the measure.

The legislation calls for a seller of heroin, meth and other upper level drugs to be charged with

a level 1 felony if someone dies from their product.

The offense carries an up to 40 year sentence.

Sellers of prescription drugs like Xanax that cause death would face an up 30 years.

Death by synthetic drugs could mean an up to 16 years.

The bill now goes to the senate for further consideration.
