two men injured when hit by a train

A driver apparently tried beating a train and lost in LaPorte last night.

28 year old Colton Romenzak was flown to a hospital in South Bend.

His passenger.....18 year old Logan Pierro was taken to LaPorte Hospital.

According to police..the crash happened just after 9 p.m. at Boston and

Bach streets.

Police say the gates were down and flashing lights activated when Romenzak

went around a couple of vehicles stopped for the passing train.

He then veered around the gates....and was hit by the eastbound freight train

doing 45 miles per hour at impact.

Police say both men were talking when extricated from the 1997 Plymouth Voyager

van.

According to police....Romenzak was taken by ambulance to a helicopter that landed

nearby.....

Warrants are being sought to charge him with driving on a suspended license

And Pierro with possession of drug paraphernalia.
