One person was killed in a single vehicle crash that resulted in a

major power outage in Michigan City last night.

The victim was 17 years old and a student at

Michigan City High School.

Police say his name is not being released at the request of the


According to police.....he was traveling at a high rate of speed....on Pahs Rd..when

he veered off the shoulder and struck two NIPSCO utility poles in front of

Michigan City High School.

The car also hit a brick pillar before coming to a rest.

Police say the boy was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash was still being investigated.
