Charges were filed Monday against a LaPorte man who allegedly chased a man with a knife and tried running him over with a vehicle.

Dustin Hine, 31, is charged in LaPorte Circuit Court with level 6 felony criminal recklessness.

According to LaPorte Police, Hine and a woman on January 11 were engaged in a heated altercation at a home in the 600 block of Kingsporte Lane.

A next door neighbor went over and looked through a broken window at Hine who pulled a knife and chased the man who got away, police said.

Hine was in a pick up truck when he saw the man a second time and stomped on the gas pedal, said police.

Police said the tires on the Dodge Durango were spinning on the wet pavement when he swerved toward the man who got out of the way of the speeding vehicle.

Hine was still on probation for an 87 month prison sentence issued in 2011 for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine out of U.S District Court in South Bend.
