A woman was killed in a single vehicle crash into a NIPSCO pole Friday in Michigan City. Amanda Trampski, 34, slid on the snow and slush covered pavement into the utility pole broken in half by her 1993 Chevy Malibu which came to rest on its roof, according to Michigan City Police. The crash happened about 10:15 a.m. in the area of Springland Ave. and Karwick Rd. on the city’s east side. Road conditions and speed were factors in the collision, police said. According to police, bystanders ran over but damage to the car was too extensive for them to get inside and try to help Trampski, who had to be extricated from the wreckage. A medical helicopter was called and a landing zone established on a putting green at Pottawatomie Golf Course just north of the crash site Buddy Kasinger, public information officer for LaPorte County Emergency Medical Service, said the helicopter about 20 minutes away was called back after Trampski already in grave shape took a turn for the worst. With advanced medical care now even more urgent, Trampski was taken by ambulance to Franciscan Health just a few minutes away on the city’s west side. ‘’We had to get her to the hospital quicker,’’ Kasinger said. Police said she died a short time later. Kasinger said there was blowing snow and extremely icy conditions in spots at the crash site. ‘’The pole was just hanging by the wires,’’ he said.
