serious snowmobile crash

A man was seriously hurt in a snowmobile crash in LaPorte County during the night.

38 year old Charles Zbuka was listed in serious but stable condition today at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.........he and a riding partner were on separate snowmobiles across a farm field in Hanna Township about midnight.

Zbuka was doing 30 to 40 miles per hour......and it was snowing when he drove into a ditch.

He then struck the steep embankment on the other side.

Tyler Brock....a conservation officer with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources..said the

man lucky to have survived....

Zbuka is from the Hanna area.....

Brock says his head was in the water of the ditch when his riding partner came over and

pulled his head out.

According to DNR.....alcohol was cited as a factor along with speed and poor visibility.

Authorities are waiting for the results of a blood alcohol test before moving forward

on possible charges.
