They were good friends in Michigan City but one allegedly stabbed the other more

than a dozen times.

27 year old Dewayne Sutton is now charged with attempted murder and four other felony

counts.

The victim....James Hines is still in the hospital with injuries like a punctured kidney and

lung.

According to police.....the stabbing happened Saturday night in the 300 block of W. 11th St.

Sutton allegedly ordered a woman at knifepoint to call and have Hines come over.

When Hines showed up......police say he was knocked to the floor and while face down Sutton began stabbing him in the back.

According to police...officers found Hines sitting in a bathtub and two females were trying to stop the heavy bleeding.

He had 17 stab wounds.

According to police......Sutton during his arrest claimed Hines stole some of his money.

The investigation shows they've known each other since first grade and the night before

were getting along well during a gathering.

Hines was transferred to a hospital in South Bend due to the extent of his injuries.

Police say what appears to be a kitchen knife was recovered.
