Local officials will be bending some ears tomorrow at the state capitol.
A five year extension is being sought for the city's urban enterprize
association.
Many years ago.....the state gave communities permission to form
urban enterprize zones.....to offer financial incentives to spur new investment
and combat blight.
A previous extension for LaPorte is about to expire.
Bert Cook is executive director of the Greater LaPorte Economic Development
Corporation.
He says the zone has made a very noticeable difference in the downtown.....
The urban enterprize zone has several financial incentive programs including one
that has resulted in new facods on more than 15 buildings downtown the past
two years.
