Doctor: opioid deaths up and down

Fewer deaths are occurring from abuse of prescription pills

containing opioids.

That's according to county commissioner Dr. Vidya Kora.

Kora says the problem is beginning to ease up nationwide because of restrictions

placed on opioid prescriptions.

Kora...who's a medical doctor...says he received the information a recent

American Medical Association event.

But...he said deaths from heroin and other illegal opioids are still going up....

One restriction involves not issuing prescriptions unless pain is

at a certain level......and reducing the time those prescriptions are

in effect.
