An investigation that began in Canada landed in LaPorte with federal charges and seizure of more 1,000 sexually explicit images of children.

50 pornographic videos of youngsters were also recovered allegedly from the suspect's IPad.

Christopher Bangs, 24, of 2111 Monroe St. is charged at U.S District Court in South Bend with transportation, receipt and possession of child pornography.

According to court documents, the investigation began after Canadian authorities in Saskatchewan in March of 2016 arrested an individual for sharing child pornography to a network of other users of a mobile chat application.

The investigation turned up more than 70 users of the same app who shared or posted images of child pornography directly with the man or group he belonged to.

Bangs from his IP address and username "infinity-extreme2" was identified by the U.S Department of Homeland Security as one of the group members sharing the images, according to court documents.

A forensic examiner during an August search of his home with the suspect's mother and sister present recovered from his IPad images downloaded from the internet starting in May of 2014.

One was a video of a girl 3 or 4 years of age, perhaps, engaged in sexual activity with a man, authorities said.

Another video allegedly showed a boy no more than 6-years old with a man.

Court documents revealed that Bangs admitted to the allegations when interviewed by federal agents.
