A 12-year old Michigan City girl was flown to an Indianapolis hospital following an attack Friday by a 140 pound dog.

Her condition was not released but police said they are praying for the survival of the child, who was not identified.

According to police, officer Scott Combs at 7:40 a.m. responded to Dunewood Mobile Home Park along Indiana 212 on the city's far east side.

Several neighbors tried beating the Bull Mastiff off the girl, who after breaking loose ran inside her home.

The dog belonging to a neighbor followed and while attacking her again was wrestled to the ground and away from the girl flown to Riley Children's Hospital.

Police said officer Combs utilizing his medical skills until paramedics arrived likely saved the girl's life.

The dog was impounded by Michigan City Animal Control and placed under quarantine.

Police said the name of the dog's owner and other details were not released because of the investigation still being in the early stages.
