A baby was abandoned overnight at the Coolspring Township fire station.
The baby was placed in a baby box and when the door opened an alarm sounded
as designed.
Police say paramedics and firefighters responded and found the infant in good shape.
The baby was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
LaPorte County Police Capt. Mike Kellem says there will be no criminal charges
pursued because state law allows babies to be abandoned at fire stations, police stations and hospitals.
