The owner of a bar in Trail Creek could face significant prison time for seriously injuring a customer with a liquor bottle.

Gordon Gardner, 51, is charged in LaPorte Superior Court 1 with level 3 felony aggravated battery; level 5 felony battery and level 6 felony criminal recklessness.

The owner of Decoy's Bar & Grill at 1729 E. U.S 20 was tending bar October 29 when he allegedly tossed a liquor bottle that left a female patron with a hole in her upper lip and broken tooth.

According to court documents, Gardner admitted throwing the object but said he meant to strike a male patron who poured all of his beverage on the bar.

The victim claimed Gardner didn't think she was going to leave a tip and asked her to get out then while near the exit she turned and was hit in the face, police said.

Police said the woman received stitches but might need plastic surgery.

Gardner could face anywhere from 3 to 16 years on the most serious offense.

The LaPorte area man is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Tuesday before Judge Michael Bergerson.
