Rain delayed the start of work to be done on the draw bridge at Michigan City's lakefront.

It began today now that mother nature is cooperating after two days of rainfall.

Jay Sullivan is the LaPorte County highway department engineer.

He says the bridge will be totally rewired.......to eliminate power failures

that occasionally cause the 86 year old bridge to stick up and down...

The project including booring underneath Trail Creek to run new wiring

from the bridge to the power supply.

Sullivan says the bridge stuck three weeks ago because of breakers popping.

New more heavy duty breakers have since been installed.
