A Hudson Lake area man behind the wheel of a sports car wanted to race but didn't know he was trying to entice a police officer in an unmarked vehicle.

Eugene Thome, 41, was arrested for resisting law enforcement and other counts like driving as a habitual offender.

According to LaPorte County Police, the officer was in an unmarked Dodge Charger on Indiana 39 about 7 p.m. Saturday when another Dodge Charger suddenly came up from behind and passed him.

The officer activated his lights and siren but Thome kept going for about two miles until stopping in a yard on Springville Rd.

He climbed out then gave up after running for about 100 yards, police said.

According to police, Thome said he didn't know the driver he tried encouraging to race was an officer in an unmarked car until he saw the flashing overhead lights.

He was operating on a ten-year suspension of his license, police said.
