A bank robbery suspect was apprehended shortly after Tuesday's hold-up in Michigan City.

The robbery happened about 10:45 a.m. at PNC Bank at 301 W. U.S 20 in front of the Marquette Mall.

''An apprehension has been made,'' said Michigan City Police Sgt. Chris Yagelski.

Police were withholding the name of the suspect and other details until they're further along in the investigation.

''They're still putting all of the pieces together,'' Yagelski said.

LaPorte County Police were among the other responding law enforcement agencies and provided two tracking dogs to assist in the search.

Sheriff John Boyd said the dogs were already on duty and happened to be in the Michigan City area when the robbery occurred.

''They got there in very quick order and both canines began a track,'' said Boyd.

The apprehension was made less than one hour later.

Boyd did not know if the dogs were directly responsible for capturing the suspect but said some of his deputies were involved in the arrest.
