Authorities Tuesday were investigating a body found close to Michigan City's lakefront.

Tyler Brock, a conservation officer with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, said a passerby made the discovery Monday about 3:45 p.m.

''A recovery was made shortly after,'' Brock said.

The body of a black man was in the water close to the southern edge of Trail Creek near the Franklin St. draw bridge, he said.

The name of the man was being withheld pending notification of family.

An autopsy was being scheduled to try and determine cause and manner of death which were not immediately known, authorities said.

Brock said there were clothes on the body.

He would not speculate how long the man had been dead.
