A burglary suspect confronted by a homeowner near Union Mills this morning is now

in custody.

LaPorte County Police Capt. Mike Kellems says the man was apprehended about 9:30

this morning.

The arrest was made after a resident called police about a man matching the description of the

suspect they were looking for.

The suspect and homeowner were injured during the confrontation inside a barn between

Union Mills and Wanatah.

Police say a gunshot was also fired in the air while the suspect was fleeing on foot.

The name of the suspect was not immediately released.

Kellems said it's believed he was involved in more than 100 theft and burglary related reports

In LaPorte County and the surrounding area the past six months.
