Several overnight thefts outside LaPorte could be the work of one individual confronted by a homeowner who fired a gun.

That's according to LaPorte County Police who were still working to try and identify the suspect last seen on foot.

About 1 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the 4500 block of N. Range Road near the Indiana Toll Road.

Police said a man investigating a burglar alarm going off encountered the subject inside his attached garage.

After the intruder claimed to have a gun, the resident went back inside the home and retrieved a gun then went outside and fired it, police said.

''He fired a warning shot in the air and the suspect fled on foot,'' said LaPorte County Police Capt. Mike Kellems.

There were no injuries, police said.

Officers searched the area for a couple of hours but were not able to locate the suspect.

Nothing was believed taken.

Kellems said the same person could be responsible for several thefts from more

outbuildings in that area during the night.

''We suspect they are related and we're continuing to follow up on those leads as well,'' Kellems said.
