A leading maker of air and natural gas compressors in LaPorte is expanding.

Boss Industries will add 6,400 square feet of production space at its over $50,000 square foot plant at Thomas Rose Industrial Park on the city's east side.

A 10-year tax deduction credit was provided by the city on the estimated $300,000 investment.

Five new jobs in production and sales paying on average $26 an hour plus benefits are projected.

According to company officials, Boss Industries established in 1988 currently has about 50 employees and more than half of all rotary screw PTO compressors sold are made by the firm serving primarily utility and municipality markets.

Craig Attar, plant manager at Boss Industries, said the expansion will start as soon as possible

Bert Cook, executive director of the Greater LaPorte Economic Development Corporation, said the

tax credits are reserved for companies within the city's Urban Enterprize Zone and provide a 65-percent savings on what normally would be paid in property taxes on new construction and equipment.

Recipients must invest the savings back into their properties, something that can spur additional job creation, Cook said.
