A former state lawmaker has his sights on being mayor of LaPorte.
Tom Dermody said he would like to run in the upcoming caucus
to fill the seat being vacated by Blair Milo.
Last year, Dermody did not seek another term after ten years as
state representative.
He wanted be home during his son's senior year in high school.
Dermody says he wants to be mayor to give back to a community that's
been good to him.....and continue the focus on job creation, improving
the workforce quality and solving the drug problem.
Nick Barbknecht is the LaPorte County republican party chairman.
He says Dermody can't run for mayor in the upcoming caucus because
he lives outside the city and must reside here for one year prior to
the election...
Dermody says if he can't run now...he will in the 2019 campaign and
will relocate to the city to become eligible.
