kingsford heights has water again

Water is flowing through taps again but the entire town of Kingsford Heights remained under a boil order Thursday.
Water from a four-inch main on Evanston Rd. was not able to be shut-off so the loss of water and normal usage by customers drained the 100,00 gallon municipal storage tank.
Customers were without water from Tuesday night until Wednesday afternoon when the repair was made, said Kari Moss, a member of the town council.
''It was an old repair that gave way and they patched it. It's all back up and running,'' said Moss.
Moss said water flowed at low pressure until the tank filled completely back up which took more than six-hours.
Moss said close to 200 residents in the community of more than 1,000 people eight miles south of LaPorte showed up at town hall to receive bottled water purchased by the town.
A case of bottled water was given out for every adult in each household and more bottles were added to what they received for every child, she said.
Police, firefighters and others delivered bottled water to the homes of residents unable to get it on their own.
The boil order will remain in effect until about 2 p.m. Friday as a standard precaution to eliminate any bacteria that may have entered the system while the lines and tank were dry, Moss said.
