LaPorte officials are advising drivers to plan their routes in advance because of railroad crossing work that will close a four lane stretch of Indiana 2 during two major upcoming events.
Two other crossings being repaired in the city will also be blocked during roughly the same time period.
''I would say plan accordingly and look for different routes to get to where you need to get to,'' said Thaddeus Cutler, the city's downtown director.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the work is scheduled June 7-14 on the Chicago South Shore Railroad crossing between Bosserman and Philadelphia streets on the city's east side.
The surface of the crossing will the replaced, INDOT officials said.
Eastbound drivers will be detoured north on U.S. 35, east on U.S. 20 and back to State Road 2.
Drivers approaching from the west will be detoured to U.S. 20 then south on U.S. 35 and back to Indiana 2.
On Monday, the Norfolk Southern Railroad crossings at Tyler Street & Orchard Avenue will be closed for resurfacing & paving.
Those crossings are expected to reopen 10 days later, according to the mayor's office.
Officials are hoping turnout won't be impacted by the work for the 5th annual Maple City Grand Prix on Stone Lake June 10 & 11 and Cruise Night on June 10th.
''It's really hard to track exactly where people are coming from but LaPorte does have alot of thoroughfares going through it and lot of different ways to get around so just planning ahead is going to be your best bet,'' said Cutler.
